House Fire in Old Town

A section of South Spring Street in Old Town was closed off late Thursday morning due to a house fire. A passerby reported smoke and flames coming from the roof of a home just after 10 o’clock. When fire crews from Orono and Old Town arrived, there was some smoke and flames in the second floor of the home. They say they contained most of the damage to a bedroom.”There was mostly smoke. The fire was just starting to head through the wall and up towards the attic when we got in there. We started with a water can and a hose, and were able to get a quick knockdown,” said Lt. Mark Graffam of the Old Town Fire Department. The cause is not known at this time, but fire officials say it does not look suspicious. The home is still livable, but that bedroom does have a lot of damage. No one was inside at the time, we’re told the owner is out of state and is currently renting out the home.
