Starting July 12th if you tamper with your vehicle’s exhaust system to make it louder you might be fined. The new law includes all cars, trucks and motorcycles. The Bangor Police Department says it receives complaints about vehicles operating with excessive or unusual noise. Police say the new law doesn’t prohibit everyone from modifying their exhausts. “It still leaves it up to the the officer because it talks about the sound from the exhaust has to be that in comparison to vehicles like it,” says Sgt. Paul Edwards. “So if you’ve had an exhaust and you modified it and it didn’t amplify the sound or modify it to make it louder you still could be okay.”The plan is to notify motor vehicle inspection stations of the new law over the next few weeks.
