Fallen Soldier’s Body Returned to Maine 

The body of a Maine soldier, killed in Afghanistan last week, was returned to Maine Wednesday morning.Twenty-five-year-old Staff Sgt. Brandon Silk served with the 101st Airborne Division and was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.Silk was a crew member on a Black Hawk Helicopter.He was killed in Afghanistan last week during what officials describe as a “hard landing.”Silk graduated from Orono High School in 2003.Family members awaited the return of his body in Bangor Wednesday, but didn’t wish to speak on camera.Local police and fire departments, and State Police and the Maine Warden Service, escorted the hearse to Old Town.Veazie and Orono Fire Departments were stationed off the Kelley Road Exit in Orono and had their ladder trucks up with an American flag flying from the top.Silk’s funeral is set for Friday at the United Baptist Church in Old Town.
