Prentiss Murder Conviction Upheld 

A man from Prentiss convicted of killing a friend in November of 2007, lost his appeal to the Maine Supreme Judicial CourtJoseph Dumas was found guilty in May of 2009 of murdering Mario “Sonny” Litterio.Dumas told detectives he was under the influence of cocaine when he shot and killed Litterio. Last month, Dumas appealed to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court to overturn his conviction. Dumas’ attorney argued that Judge Michaela Murphy denied a motion to suppress evidence, denied a motion for a mistrial, and did not properly instruct the jury in regards to deciding when the intent to murder may be formed.In an opinion issued today, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court unanimously decided to uphold the murder conviction.
