Flags at Half Staff in Honor of Senator Byrd 

Governor John Baldacci has ordered flags to fly at half-staff on Tuesday to honor the late Senator Robert Byrd.Byrd died Monday at a Virginia hospital after a senate career that stretched more than a half-century.Baldacci described Byrd as “An institution in Washington and in the United States Senate…” who bore witness to “…great change and progress…”Senator Olympia Snowe described him as “A distinguished, iconic legislator.” She said he served as “…conscience and champion of congress.”Senator Byrd was 92.
