Bangor PRIDE Festival

This month marks the 40th anniversary of the first gay PRIDE marches held in New York, San Francisco, and Chicago. In recognition, a festival was held in downtown Bangor.PRIDE festivals are the open expression of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people’s determination to live lives of acceptance and equality. This is the second year Bangor has held a festival of this kind.In West Market Square, tables from supporting community organizations were set up, and many speakers and musical acts performed throughout the evening. “I want my teenagers, our youngsters in this community to grow up feeling safe, the feeling that they are accepted, that they can make a contribution. So look at the number of young people in the Square today, feeling safe, that’s what the PRIDE festival is all about,” said John Greg Music, an organizer of the event.
