Fallen Maine Soldier Remembered at Former Base 

A military base in Washington state held a memorial service on Wednesday for a soldier from Waterville killed in Afghanistan.21-year-old Army specialist Wade Slack died in combat on May 6th.He served with the Army’s 707th ordnance battalion at joint base Lewis-McChord.Authorities say Slack had just dismantled an explosive device, when he was killed by enemy fire in a mortar attack.In high school, Slack decided he wanted to join the military and specialize in defusing weapons.
