The state’s top transportation official spoke to business people in the Bangor area Wednesday morning about how Maine can take advantage of global trade and shipping patterns.David Cole, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation, was the featured speaker at the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce Early Bird Breakfast.Cole says with strategic investments in ports, like Searsport, Maine can prosper. He suggests developing an international container port in Searsport, and if needed, using Sears Island to house facilities.Cole says the state needs to make strategic investments, taking advantage of what nature has given it. “Our deep water, our uncongested rail and highways, and we can provide access to world markets and in the meantime provide our own companies with other service because others will be helping to pay for it,” says David Cole, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation.
