Black Bears are Back in Maine

A decades long study of Maine black bears seems to be paying off for researchers as they try to learn more about the animals.Officials with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife say the state suspended bear hunting in 1980 unsure whether hunters were killing too many bears. Now the bear population is booming with about 23-thousand in the state. In fact, officials say hunters are shooting fewer bears each year than the department would like.
