A perfect day to be poolside – and lots of eager swimmers were certainly side-by-side at a pool in Bangor. The Pancoe pool on Union street opened Saturday afternoon.More than 130 people waited in the line to be the first ones in to take a dip this season. The staff expected up to 500 people to visit the pool by the end of the day. Pancoe usually opens up the first weekend after school ends in Bangor and stays open until mid-August. Bangor’s Recreation Superintendent Debbie Gendreau says she wasn’t surprised so many people came by to cool off, considering the scorching weather. “This is one I foresee being one of the better openings since the pool opened 5-6 years ago. It’s the hottest day yet for a beginning first start.”Bangor’s other pool, the Dakin pool, opens Monday – which is good timing since it’s the the first day of summer. Both pools will have general swim Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Family swim will be Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.The pool in Brewer opens next Wednesday.
