There are more than three hundred officers on the Maine State Police force, making it the largest police agency in the state. However, over the next few years a lot of retirements are anticipated, so a steady decline of the ranks is expected. It’s the reason state police have launched a big hiring push. Trooper Robert Burke says it’s the most agressive recruiting effort in their 85 year history. Because the department serves the entire state Burke says there are endless opportunities within state police. He says, “An applicant will soon have the ability to join an underwater recovery team, to work as an evidence response technician, to work on a tactical team, or to have a canine assigned as their partner.” There are ten special units in the agency and Burke says troopers are encouraged to take on the specialties. To learn more about the Maine State Police and how to apply click here.
