Newburgh Fraud Report Released 

Two months after Newburgh residents were told by town officials their former Deputy Town Treasurer had stolen money from the town, a report released to TV5 News Friday supports those findings.The Fraud Examination report says after a full review, it was determined Cindy Dunton knowingly misappropriated almost 200-thousand dollars from the town from January of 2006 to March of this year.The report also says a letter from Dunton’s attorney states Dunton manipulated town accounts to pay her property taxes and health insurance contributions.The Fraud Investigation Team recommends the town review their internal financial controls. Selectman Leona Smith tells TV5 that process is already underway.Smith says the report has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.The report will be presented to residents at a town meeting at the Newburgh Elementary School Monday night at 6.Smith says the town attorney and auditors will be there to answer questions from residents.
