A hospital in Ellsworth has met it’s goal to collect half-a-million dollars for a new emergency department and will now be rewarded with another half-a-million dollars. Folks with Maine Coast Memorial Hospital say hundreds of donors across the region pitched in for the fundraising challenge. An anonymous donor promised to give the hospital $500,00 if the community could collect the same amount.Officials say they’re happy with the success but they still have more money to raise. The $10 million Dixon Emergency Center opened in March. It’s more than three times the size of the previous emergency department and is designed to serve 24-thousand patients a year.
