Clinton Voters Approve Police Budget

Residents in the town of Clinton voted to keep their police department.Funding for a new budget was voted on, and shot down, twice this year. Some citizens petitioned to have it go to a third vote, and that vote took place Tuesday. If voters had rejected the budget, the alternative would have been basic rural patrol by State Police and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, which is free. The budget calls for $175,000, the same funding level since 2006.Clinton Police Chief Charles Runnels says he’s pleased with the outcome of the vote, and police business will continue to operate as usual.
