Treasures Found in Library Attic

There are more than 300 libraries in Maine.Only one of them has recently found pieces of its community’s history within its walls, and we’re not talking about the books.Old photos, documents and even diaries have been found at the Waterville Public Library. The treasures were found during a renovation of the building. Workers found the pieces in the library’s attic.Director Sarah Sugden hopes to catalog all of the items and scan many of them so they can be put on the library’s website for everyone to access. Some of the artifacts might wind up in local museums and historical societies. One item is a tax bill from 1804 to the city of Waterville. The tab… $112 dollars. A sure sign that taxes have indeed gone up over the past two centuries.
