Memorial Day observances were held across the state on Monday.Folks gathered at the Augusta Cemetery Monday afternoon for a wreath-laying ceremony.The Maine Veterans’ Coordinating Committee sponsored the event.Many people attended, and looked on as wreaths were laid in remembrance of those who gave their lives for this country. “From our nations founding, to the current conflicts of today, brave patriots have answered the call of duty when freedom is threatened,” Chuck Malteris, an assistant to U.S. Senator Susan Collins said at the event. “We have left the comfort and security of home, not to seek glory, but to serve humanity. With quiet courage ,devotion to duty, and compassion they have written a noble and inspiring history.”The 195th Maine Army National Guard was at the ceremony. They played patriotic music for the event.
