Firefighters say a home is a total loss in Newport 

Officials say a neighbor called the Newport Fire Department to Spring Street at about 6:30 p.m. They say upon arrival the single story house house was fully involved. The department called for mutual aid before arrival. They say one of the issues on scene was their manpower was down due to the holiday weekend, but they were able to eventually get the blaze under control. Officials say about 55 firefighters were called to the scene.Central Maine Power was also called to the scene for a power line down. One Firefighter was overcome by heat and was transported to Sebasticook Valley Hospital. No one was home at the time of the blaze but a cat and dog were saved, unharmed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
