Lobster Festival Plans

The 63rd annual Lobster Festival in Rockland is set to kick off August 4th. But this year, the city won’t be picking up any of the tab.Rockland city councilors will provide their usual services of public safety and clean-up, but the festival will have to repay the nearly $17,000 in overtime expenses by June of next year.City officials say they just can’t afford the costs during a time the municipality has cut jobs. Festival organizers say they plan to save public money by replacing city employees with volunteers.
