Man Accused of Mistreating Horses Pleads Not Guilty

A Rockland man accused of mistreating and causing the deaths of several horses in Waldoboro pleaded not guilty to the charges this week.51-year-old Donald Genthner was in court in Wiscasset. He’s charged with seven counts of animal cruelty and four counts of aggravated animal cruelty.Prior to his plea Genthner’s attorney filed a motion to dismiss, saying the indictment was too vague because each charge didn’t state which horse it was linked to. The judge said the case would stand but ordered the state to provide more specific information.Police arrested Genthner in January, after they say he caused the deaths of three horses and also mistreated eight others.
