Emergency Responders Honored 

In emergencies, they are the go-to people. Some first responders got special recognition at the State House Thursday where the 23rd annual Maine Emergency Medical Services awards were given out.Harland “Hardy” Taylor was one of three life-time achievement award recipients.Taylor has dedicated more than 50 years to the town of Oakland as a firefighter and rescue responder. “It should be going to my family because it’s a commitment of the whole family to be in fire and rescue,” Taylor Said on Thursday. “They’ve lost a lot of time I would have gave to school functions and I remember Christmas once they had to hold off presents till I got back from a fire.”Governor’s awards were also handed to Dr. Steven Diaz of Fairfield, and Dr. Barbara Woodlee of Augusta for their support to E.M.S.
