The Penobscot Theatre Company and Acadia Hospital have come together to help students better understand bullying. “The Secret Life of Girls” is a one-act play that follows issues many girls face in middle school and beyond. Bulimia, cutting, sex and cyber-bullying, these are all topics covered and as these actresses have found, traveling to more than 8 schools with this performance the middle schoolers can relate. After the show the floor is open for questions and a discussion about the effects of bullying. Many of the actresses have personal experiences to share. The girls are taken through a scene from the play for a second time. This time they are encouraged to share what they would say in a bullying situation. Hopefully the play has gotten through so these middle school girls will talk to someone if they are bullied and their pain won’t be a secret anymore.
