State regulators spent the day discussing how to clean up toxic waste in Orrington. But a decision could still be a month or more away. The Board of Environmental Protection is trying to develop a plan for the former HoltraChem site. They started reviewing information two weeks ago after a series of public hearings earlier this year. The company that’s responsible for the property wants to remove only the most toxic land, then seal the rest in place. But the Department of Environmental Protection wants to get rid of all contaminated material. B-E-P staff still have to write up a formal cleanup proposal for the board to accept. We’re told a final plan could be adopted within the next two months.
