Snow Lingers on Mt. Katahdin

Due to the beautiful weather Maine has been experiencing as of late, hikers are heading out. However, Baxter State Parks indicate that winter continues to linger on Mount Katahdin.Rangers from Baxter park have been checking the trails around Maine’s largest mountain, say that there is still a foot of snow on parts of the treeless alpine tundra.Jensen Bissell, Park Director says that the alpine tundra is very soft and wet during snow melt, and hikers can cause damage during that time. There are still several feet of snow in the Saddle and Cathedral Trails on the north side of Katahdin. Bissell says he hopes conditions will allow Katahdin trails to be open before Memorial Day weekend.
