John Bapst Teacher Passes Away

John Bapst High School is remembering a long time English teacher. Fred Jones passed away Saturday night at Eastern Maine Medical center, just a few weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.Jones started teaching English at John Bapst in 1984.He had planned to retire next month.Head of school Melville Mackay says the school is very honored that Jones’ family decided to start a scholarship in his memory. The Dr. Frederick G. Jones Memorial Scholarship will provide financial aid for students that couldn’t otherwise afford to attend John Bapst High School.For nearly three decades, jones also played the organ and directed the choir for St. John’s Episcopal church in Bangor.A high mass will be held for him there this Saturday at 10 a.m.Fred Jones was 71.
