Folks at an area bank say they hope a new partnership will help businesses grow in the Bangor region. Camden National Bank announced Monday they will help sponsor new members of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. They say any business that has not been a chamber member in the past three years can join this year, for half-price.Bank President Greg Dufour says a robust chamber of commerce benefits the whole region, so he hopes the sponsorship encourages more businesses to sign up.”They’ll receive the benefits of networking with other members of the Chamber of Commerce, developing more ideas, more advocacy for each other and for the region, which should improve the economic condition of the local areas,” Dufour says.”It should give us an opportunity to grow even faster than we have in the past few months. And really, that growth is key to making sure the chamber is able to provide the advocacy and do the work on the issues that will help the region grow faster,” says John Porter, president of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. They say the incentive could serve up to 80 businesses. The chamber currently has 820 members, but leaders hope that number will top one thousand soon as it continues to grow.
