This spring’s bizarre weather has certainly been a challenge for local strawberry farms. At Tate’s strawberry farm in Corinth they’re planning to open the pick-your-own season a few weeks early as a result of the warm weather in early March. They’ve had to use an irrigation system to protect the strawberry blossoms from the frost. Owner Albert Tate says the weather this spring certainly has presented some challenges. “When the temperature was warm in the middle of March everybody was excited,” Tate says, “we wanted to get the straw off and get going. But history shows that mother nature will always throw a monkey wrench into things so we sat back and we waited a little bit but we need it to warm up.” The pick-your-own strawberry season usually starts around the end of j]June. This year Tate’s anticipates they’ll open up around June 15th. The season only lasts about two weeks.
