Victim Takes Stand At Machete Attack Trial

William Guerrette testified Thursday at the trial of the man accused of attacking him and his daughter in their home two years ago in their Pittston home.Daniel Fortune is facing 14 charges, including attempted murder.Guerrette testified that he remembers the attack, “Almost like a cartoon. Falling, getting up, falling, getting up, slipping in his own blood.” He said the thought ran through his head was “go get your gun.” He said he ran back into his room, told his wife someone was in the house, and got the gun.Guerrette said he ran back out, pointed the gun at the “tall black man” and tried to pull the trigger, but there was no bullet in the chamber.Leo Hylton, Fortune’s foster brother, is already serving 50 years in prison after pleading guilty for his role in the crime.Fortune claims Hylton is responsible for the attack. One more witness is expected to take the stand in Fortune’s trial Thursday, and then closing arguments will begin.
