Eddington Man Convicted of Assault Pleads Not Guilty to Theft 

A man from Eddington who’s already serving time for assaulting his estranged wife was back in court in Bangor today, accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his former company. 33-year-old Ryan Witmer pleaded not guilty to theft. Penobscot County Deputy District Attorney Michael Roberts say Witmer’s charged with stealing about 40-thousand dollars from a mortgage company he ran. The crime allegedly took place in July of 2008 while Witmer was in jail in connection with attacking his estranged wife.Roberts says a witness indicated Witmer was using the money for legal fees in that case. He was sentenced last December to four years in prison for simple assault.A trial date on the theft charge has not been set. Witmer is due back in court in August.
