Saturday was National Train Day. The Airport Mall in Bangor was one location where there was a celebration. Displays there included an operating model railroad. It even had a rail yard where freight cars are joined together, to make up trains. Other displays promoted the Downeast Scenic Railroad, which will be operating tourist trains in Ellsworth this summer, and the Maine Eastern Railroad featuring train rides between Rockland and Brunswick. “Railroading is very important to the state of maine and I think you’ll find that what we offer with the groups, families look for things to do, we offer affordably priced, and don’t take up all of your day,” Said Robert Holland from the Brooks Preservation Society.Maine Operation Lifesaver, which promotes safety at railroad crossings and trespass prevention on railroad tracks was also on hand.
