Letter Carriers’ Food Drive 

There’s an easy way to help the hungry this weekend.The National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger drive is Saturday, May 8th.All you have to do is just leave non-perishable foods out for your postal carrier, and he or she will pick it up and make sure it gets to a local food pantry.Around ninety post offices and pantries in Eastern Maine are taking part, including Crossroads Food Pantry in Old Town. “We would love to raise over 90,000 pounds,” Said Emma Pope-Welch, the Director of Communications at the Eastern Maine branch of the United Way. “The need for hunger is huge has increased over the last year. We’d love to see participation from as many as possible.”The folks at the Crossroads Food Pantry say the need for food among those they serve is increasing.Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in Eastern Maine.
