Governor Mourns Death of Soldier from Maine 

A soldier who grew up in Maine, has been killed while serving in Afghanistan.Governor Baldacci announced that Spc. Wade Slack died Thursday. The 21 year old soldier grew up in Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School in 2007. He was serving with the Army’s 707th Ordnance Battalion from Fort Lewis, Washington.Assistant Principal Carole Dodge said Slack decided when he was junior that he wanted to join the military and specialize in defusing military weapons.Governor Baldacci spoke Friday with Spc. Slack’s parents who live in Waterville.He says “Slack was a dedicated soldier who served his country with honor. All of Maine mourns his passing.”Governor Baldacci will order flags lowered to half staff on the day of Specialist Slack’s funeral.
