BEP Begins Deliberations on HoltraChem Cleanup

Catherine Pegram

State regulators are now trying to figure out the best way to clean up for the former HoltraChem site in Orrington. The Board of Environmental Protection met in Augusta today to begin deliberations on a plan for the site.A series of public meetings were held earlier this year. The Department of Environmental Protection is pushing for a plan that would get rid of all of the contaminated land on the site. The company that’s responsible for the property is backing a proposal that would remove only the most toxic land, then seal the rest in place. Town selectmen have voted in support of that plan.
