Turkey Hunting Season Begins 

Today begins turkey hunting season in Maine which will run through the 5th of June.Maine WIldlife officials say that the population of turkeys in strong after being reduced to small numbers in previous years. Maine has issued about 20,000 turkey permits in recent years, which is well up from fewer than 1,000 through the 1990s.Turkey hunting is considered a secretive sport, where hunters in camouflage use turkey calls to attract the wary birds. Turkey hunters are allowed to take one bearded wild turkey in the spring, and a turkey of either sex in the fall season.
