Court Volunteer Training

A training was offered Thursday in Bangor for folks who want to help the members of so-called grandfamilies.Maine Kids-Kin helps extended family members who are stepping in to care for relatives’ children. On Wednesday the program was training volunteers on how to support such families as they navigate the court system. The volunteers only offer emotional support and information. They do not act as attorneys or offer legal advice.”We started working on this project a couple of years ago and it was because our families kept saying to us I wish there was someone that could be with me when I go into court. Just sitting out in the hallway knowing that they’re there when I get out because it’s really intimidating, there’s so much on the line.”If being a court volunteer is something you would like to do you can call the Kids-Kin Program at 941-2347.
