Six girls from the Weatherbee School in Hampden have qualified for the Destination Imagination global finals in Tennessee. The group of fourth and fifth graders had to build a structure out of newpaper and glue and it couldn’t weigh more than 75 grams. Today, the group visited several laboratories at the University of Maine. The girls spent the afternoon touring the engineering labs and had the opportunity to ask some of the professors questions. Cheryl Fasse is the team manager and says this is a great experience for her team, known as the Glue Girls. “We have young ladies who are interested in math and science and engineering and this is a great opportunity for them to come and see some real life applications of what they can do with projects just like this,” she said. The girls will compete at the destination imagination global finals next month.
