Police say a Maine man was shot inside his home during an encounter with a state trooper and a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland says the shooting happened Friday. He told the Bangor Daily News that 55-year-old Neal Begin was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and underwent emergency surgery. A hospital spokeswoman said Saturday the hospital had no information on him. The News reports it was not known which officer fired the weapon at the Cyr Plantation home, Trooper Robert Flynn or the agent, who was not identified. Kate Simmons, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, confirmed Saturday the office was investigating the shooting but could not release any details.
