Maine Men’s Hockey Team Practices on Sleds

One month ago, the Maine men’s ice hockey team had their season come to a close in the Hockey East Championship. With some time off before next season begins, the Black Bears took to the ice again. This time with a twist. They may be Division 1 athletes but put them on sleds and its not so easy. Recently they were on the ice at the Alfond getting ready to take on the Sled Dogs: a team comprised of local disabled men and women. The game benefits Alpha 1, a nonprofit organization helping disabled men and women stay active. For the Black Bears on the ice, the sleds took some getting used to.Ryan Hegarty – Maine Defenseman”I think definitely the first time you get out here it’s a lot harder than you think. Once you get used to it, it’s a lot of fun and pretty easy.”Brian Flynn – Maine Forward”I think it happens pretty natrually at this point. No this is fun. Its good to be out here.”Gustav Nyquist – Maine Forward”Its just a completley different game. You have to try to figure it out how to do it. Its really tough and its just fun to be out here.”
