Wildfires are keeping forest rangers busy this spring. The Maine Forest Service says so far rangers have tackled more than 180 fires, 61 more than this time last year. Rangers are reminding people about the dangers of such fires as part of wildfire awareness week. Grass and brush fires are typical this time of year when the land is dry, humidity’s low and the winds pick up. A reminder, too, that folks who plan on burning brush piles need to have a permit first, which can be picked up at your local fire station. The Forest Service says wildfires this year have already burned nearly 165 acres.
