Scenic Byway Causes Safety Concerns

It’s a spot with a spectacular view, but getting to it is causing some concern over safety.Right along busy Rt. 201 in Solon you’ll find the Old Canada Road scenic byway. The 130 acre parcel of land has a picnic area, informational displays and hiking trails. What’s causing an issue is when northbound drivers slow to turn into the area. Traffic behind turning drivers is cresting the top of a hill, which county officials say it’s an accident waiting to happen. The goal is to get federal funding to create a left-turn lane. The cost to build the additional lane would be about $365,000.According to officials, they won’t know if they’ll get the money until later this year.
