Volunteers who have come through for Saint Joseph Hospital in Bangor were treated to lunch and special praise on Thursday.More than one hundred hospital volunteers met Thursday at the Saint Mary’s church hall.In the past year, volunteers have contributed more than 19,000 hours of service. We’re told that represents a cost savings of nearly $400,000. They are involved in fundraisers, assisting hospital staff and patients, as well as caring for folks in hospice.The volunteers say they look forward to this lunch every year. “I think it’s a wonderful because all of us are here together: as many that could make it,” Said volunteer Connie Kelsey. “Many I’ve known over the years, but so many I don’t know and I’ve had the opportunity to meet more, and its a nice way for all of us to get dressed and visit with one another.”Volunteers received pins and certificates in appreciation, in addition roses were given to long time volunteers for their years of service.
