New Lead Rules

New regulations are going into effect regarding how lead paint is handled during renovations.Beginning on April 22 anyone who disturbs painted surfaces in houses or facilities built before 1978 must meet new lead-safe training requirements. There is an 8 hour training course for contractors, and there is also a certification that firms must now get.The requirements effect anyone doing work for compensation, so homeowners doing their own repairs are not subject to the rules. “Homeowners are not subject to these new rules and that’s important to know. I think it’s also important to say that homeowners should use the same safe procedures because you can poison your own family too if you don’t do renovations correctly.” says Michael Bush, a Housing Developer for Penquis. For more information on the new rules and a schedule of when the training classes are being held, you can visit
