Fishing Rope Exchange Program

Local lobstermen and other fishermen will have another chance to swap out their ropes.New rules ban the use of traditional floating rope in an effort to reduce the risk of entanglement to whales. The Gulf of Maine Lobster Foundation says lobstermen and fishermen still on the waiting list can still exchange their old rope for the new, more-expensive sinking rope. The groundline exchanges will be held in three locations during the next few months. On April 28th and 29th in Ellsworth: May 6th in Portland: and May 12th and 13th in Rockland. For more information call the Gulf of Maine Lobster Foundation at 985-8099
