Lobster Hatchery to Close

A lobster hatchery in Eastern Maine is shutting down after five years in operation. The Penobscot East Resource Center in Stonington has released hundreds of thousands of young lobsters into local waters to help build Maine’s lobster population. The nonprofit says it’s decided to shift the limited funding for the hatchery to other projects.Associate director Veronica Young says the center will put more money into the research of groundfish like haddock, cod, and flounder, which are also in short supply off the coast of Maine.
