Controlled Burns Near Tracks In Bangor

A coordinated effort to burn the overgrowth near the railroad tracks in parts of Bangor, Orono, and Veazie is almost finished.Today the Maine Forest Service along with Bangor, Orono, and Veazie fire departments burned along the tracks at the corner of State Street and Hogan Road in Bangor.Officials say this particular area has been a major fire hazard in the past. “Since 2008 we’ve had 18 fires in one day,” says maine Forest Ranger Jerry Parsons, “so far this year we’ve had 8 fires in this particular area where the engines work and malfunctions happen so we want to take care of it ahead of time.”Officials are hoping today was the last day for burning. They are calling the collaborative effort a tremendous success.
