They’ve been practicing since December and rehearsing several times a week. Over the weekend, at the Maine State Vocal Jazz Festival, all their hard work paid off. Both the Millinocket Middle School and Stearns/Schenck High School show choirs came home with first place wins.In addition, girls from both the middle and high school groups took honors for top female vocalist, and the high school show choir also won first place for choreography. They say it takes lots of practice to get ready for the competition, but it’s also a lot of fun.”It’s a competition, but you can kind of remove yourself from that and also enjoy the other schools shows,” says senior Gwyn Morneault. “We had great competition this year,” says senior Chantel McLain.”I was thinking that we would place, but I wasn’t sure,” says eighth grader Sophie Dow. “And that last minute when they say, ‘And the winner is…’ I thought, ‘Oh it will be someone else.’ And they said, ‘Millinocket,’ and we’re like, ‘Yes!'”This afternoon, the state champs showed us a bit of what helped them win their division titles. You can also see their shows in person. They’ll be performing for the public Monday and Tuesday night at 7:00 at Stearns High School in Millinocket.
