Tax Reform in the Legislature 

A proposal to delay Maine’s tax reform law from taking hold for a year is nearing final approval by the legislature.Governor Baldacci supports the measure.Tax reform was passed last year. It extends state sales tax to many currently untaxed services, and it lowers Maine’s top income tax rate.But a people’s veto effort forced the issue to be decided at the polls in June.Because of the pending referendum, the tax law was suspended.And now there’s a move before legislators to push out the bill’s effective date even further.
