Folks in Orrington can learn more about plans to clean up the former HoltraChem site, before a town vote later this month. The Department of Environmental Protection is hosting an informational meeting, Thursday, April 8th at the Center Drive School.The state is trying to solidify a plan to remove mercury and other pollutants from the property. Last month, selectmen voted to support a quicker clean-up, proposed by company that owns the property, that could cost about $100 million. The DEP is looking at a more extensive plan, one that could cost about $250 million. Residents upset with the selectmen’s decision prompted a town vote on the issue, Friday, April 23rd.Again, the DEP meeting is Thursday, April 8th – it starts at 6:30 p.m.
