Engineers to Look at Landslide Friday

A landslide along the Sebasticook river discovered by officials in Winslow will be assessed by geological engineers Friday. The ground gave way between the former Fort Halifax dam and the Dallaire St. slope, where six homes were demolished last week following concerns about the ground’s stability. The major problem, a cemetery is located at the top of that embankment.Fire chief David LaFountain tells TV5 he has some concerns there will be more sliding and the cemetery is at risk.On Thursday NextEra Energy Resources, formerly known as FPL Energy released this statement to TV5, “At this point we have not determined an exact cause of yesterday’s incident and we continue to monitor the situation.” LaFountain says NextEra is responsible for fixing the slope and any damage at the cemetery. If the cemetery needs to be moved LaFountain says the company would also be responsible for that.
