A former Brewer High School softball coach has dropped a lawsuit against the school department that claimed she was not rehired because she’s a lesbian. A lawyer for Kelly Jo Cookson says both his client and the school department agreed this week to dismiss the suit.Cookson was fired in 2006.School superintendent Daniel Lee said it was because Cookson was involved in hazing activities of team members. Cookson said it was because she was gay. A lawyer for the school department says Cookson decided to let go of the suit when she found out the department wouldn’t settle the claim and wanted to take it to court. Cookson’s lawyer says his client already won the case before the State Supreme Court when justices determined last summer that a jury should decide the issue.
