Bangor Council Works Budget

Bangor city councilors met Monday evening for a budget workshop.Councilors would like to see a reduction in the proposed tax rate for the 2011 fiscal year. The council gave the interim city manager direction on what they would like to see in his proposed budget to accomplish that.Cuts to several areas, such as the fire department, the bangor public library, and overtime budgets were discussed.Council chair, Richard Stone says these budget cuts could mean cutbacks in services in some areas. “We need to make that decision,” Stone Said on Monday. “We’re elected officials and we need to decide whether a service is the core to the vitality of Bangor or whether it’s something that’s extra. That’s something we’ll debate going forward.”The recommended budget is expected to be distributed to the city council on April 12th.
